Wine With Heart

More than 50 wineries help raise money for heart-related medical research

SANTA CRUZ—Drink wine, do good. It's not a bad proposition, as nearly all of the Santa Cruz mountain's 50 plus wineries pitch in to pour at the annual Wine With Heart auction. The event will be held at the Crowne Plaza in Palo Alto, CA from 1 to 4pm, May 7, 2006.

This is one of the few events where tasters can sample such a wide breadth of Santa Cruz wines, paired with appetizers from some of the area's best restaurants. The event also includes a silent and oral auction featuring wines of the Santa Cruz mountains. But the real meaning behind all the fun is the more than $100,000 (or more) raised for the Stanford Vascular Research Center and American Heart Association. The monies help fund research and education used to diagnose and treat heart ailments.

If you go: Tickets are $35 in advance and $45 at the door, but organizers warn that the event almost always sells out, so buy early. For reservations or for more information contact the Santa Cruz Mountains Winegrowers Association at (831) 479-WINE (9463) or send e-mail to: info@scmwa.com.
