QUICK FACT

DESCRIPTION
MacArthur Park was named after a Jimmy Webb song. A dilapidated Julia Morgan building was to be the site for the second MacArthur Park Restaurant. The building had been moved from its original site in 1919 where it was a hospitality house for World War I veterans. The partners approached the City of Palo Alto with a lease which included a promise to return it to its current condition and retain a space for World War I veterans to assemble. In 1979, Chuck Frank, with other founders traveled to Chicago with the sole purpose of visiting the top rated rib joints. They spent ten days eating ribs breakfast, lunch and dinner. By the time they returned, they knew that they wanted MacArthur Park to be the leader in ribs on the west coast. In January 1981, Chef Faz was hired out of Chicago. He was one of the opening chefs for the restaurant in June of 1981. It was a natural when Chuck heard about the availability of it, and asked Faz if he would be his partner in the acquisition.
